    In order to optimize an application for best user experience, it is important to understand the performance demand the application placed on a particular platform. On the Linux* operating system, one can use vmstat to monitor many performance aspect of an application such as its memory footprint, CPU and IO demand. Windows* Task Manager provided similar capability for Windows* operating system. In this note, we discuss how to obtain similar performance data for the Android* operating system.

  • Battery Life on Android: What Can You Do?

    Note: this blog provides information based on my technical experience with extending battery life on Android. I have performed these steps on my spare time using my personal phone and have seen positive results!

    Battery life. It’s important, right? If you like Android and want to improve your battery life, then you have come to the right place! Note: your mileage may vary. In other words, there is no guarantee in this article that your battery life will improve by some specific amount like say 10%.

    Game Engines for Android

    With Google IO fast approaching and GDC just completed I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the game engines available for mobile devices, specifically for x86 based mobile devices. There are many game engine choices out there, all with a different set of features, pricing, maturity, etc. After conducting a search online, I found a wide variety of game engines that can be used for creating games for Android* based mobile devices. Some provide x86 support, while others can be ported to support x86 devices without too much effort.
