The development of computing and communication systems has gone through a spiral cycle of centralization and decentralization schemas. The earliest telephone network used decentralized point-to-point connections. It moved to centralized switching system as the number of devices increased. The centralized computing and communication systems further moved into a decentralized paradigm, as devices expand and dependability of large systems becomes a dominating factor.

Black Duck Software, a company that helps businesses automate the management of enterprise-level open source software, released the results of a recent study revealing a sharp rise in the number of open source applications for cloud computing. The number of projects under development associated with cloud computing jumped a whopping 70 percent from 2008 to 2009. It's official. I will be a speaker at IDF in San Francisco September 13th to the 15th. It's coming up very soon. Today we had another review of the presentation material. Most speakers have finely tuned decks of slides, just like I do. But when starting the review I say that I will not be presenting many of the slides. Open source cloud computing vendor Eucalyptus and Terracotta, which is focused on high availability Java applications, recently announced a partnership to deliver an open source solution for high performance, scalable applications deployed in private clouds. This partnership includes tighter integration between their two products along with sales and marketing activities.
