Something came across my inbox recently that I just had to share. I just finished watching The Bucket List. One of my favorite scenes was when Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson are racing around the track driving these classic muscle cars. The need for speed is alive and well it seems. We've b...

I'd like to pose an open-ended question for interested readers to comment on. Much of the discussion I've heard surrounding virtualization technologies over the past few years pertains to servers. What about client virtualization?Q: Do you think client virtualization will catch on? Who, when, and...
Hi, i'm creating a hypervisor based on Intel-vt extensions, each VM must be able to have it's own hypervisor with Intel-vt (i don't have choice). The probleme is to use a hypervisor into a VM with Intel-VT require to be in root-operation to perfectly use virtualization instructions such as VMCALL, VMREAD ... But each vm-exit will only give control to the first hypervisor. So the sub-monitor will never be used. How can i do that ? Is nested virtualization with Intel-VT is realy possible without modifying guest ? Thanks a lot.
I'm trying to find out what does the Microsoft Hypervisor register for as its control fields. What registers do I need to be looking at it to find this? The documentaiton is unclear as to where the registers are that control the fields. It keeps saying bitmaps .. but to what.

Anbody have this issue? HP EliteBook 8760w, BIOS F.25, 16GB (4x4GB) ram, Intel Core i7-2820QM with Intel VT-x enabled, Win7 Enterprise 64-bit, VMware Workstation 8.0.4. Laptop resets on me randomly throughout the day, even if i'm using VMs in Workstation 8 or not. Wondering if it's related to having Intel VT-x enabled, and/or having Workstation 8 installed. The laptop just all of a sudden powers off - no lights, and then a few seconds later, turns back on and boots up Windows 7 as usual, like nothing happened. The only sign is an entry in the event log saying "the system shutdown at date/time was unexpected". No BSoD or crash dump or anything. I have set it to not restart automatically when it encounters a crash. Seen some threads from a year or two ago about folks wondering if Intel VT-x was the culprit for their host system reboots. http://communities.vmware.com/thread/273918?tstart=0- mentions changing networking to host-only or none - not an option for me, need connectivity, ...
