Intel Tech Talk, Part2 :: 03Dec07 A special Intel & Dr Dobbs mini-summit 'Software and the Concurrency Revolution: Designing for Multiple Cores'. PART 2 : James Reinders (Intel), Herb Sutter (Microsoft), and Jon Erickson (Dr. Dobbs) discuss challenges programmers face and strategies they can follow to thrive in a world transitioning to many-core computing.
James Reinders, Chief Evangelist of Intel Software Products, is leading the development efforts for performance-optimizing software tools including compilers, libraries, and threading analysis products. In 1989, Reinders joined Intel Corporation as a senior engineer and has contributed to projects including the world's first TeraFLOP supercomputer (ASCI Red), compilers, and architecture work for a number of Intel processors and parallel systems. Reinders is the author of the latest O’Reilly Nutshell book Intel® Threading Building Blocks; a monthly columnist for the "The Gauntlet," found online at go-parallel.com; and the author of the book "VTune Performance Analyzer Essentials." You can follow James's journey through the DevX Go-Parallel website.

Herb Sutter, Software Architect, Microsoft, is a chair of the ISO C++ standards committee. Among his books and papers is the widely-cited article "The Free Lunch Is Over" in which he coined the phrase "concurrency revolution" to describe the software sea change now in progress to exploit increasingly parallel hardware.
You can read more of Herb's thoughts on his Blogs - Sutter's Mill as well as his MSDN blog.

In his dual role as Editorial Director of CMP's Software Development Media Group and Editor-in-chief of Dr. Dobb's Journal, Jonathan Erickson has been at the forefront in tracking trends and innovation in the software development industry. In addition to solidifying Dr. Dobb's Journal's position as the publication of record for software development worldwide, Erickson pioneered Dr. Dobb's Journal's move into digital publishing, including CDs, DVDs, and the Internet. Thanks to Erickson's vision and efforts, Dr. Dobb's Journal is the world's leading voice of online technical content for software development. Prior to joining Dr. Dobb's Journal, Erickson was a senior technical editor for BYTE magazine. He is also the author of 10 books, ranging in topics from database management systems to portable computing.
