From the Intel AppUp booth MWC 2012

Mobile World Congress is upon us and day 1 has been busy for us at the Intel AppUp booth.  Here's a review of what we are showing off and discussing at the AppUp booth.

Optmization demo:

Software optimization

Our tools team is showing off some of our tools that help developers optimize native applications.  Intel Turbo Boost Technology is shown in action via a 3D particle animation that improved its frame rate from 7fps to 13fps using Intel Composer 2011 & Intel Compiler

Encapsulator:

The Encapsulator tool is being shown as a way to help non-native developers creating HTML5 applications.  Encapsulator allows these developers to take their existing HTML5 code and autopackage them as desktop running applications.  This means you HTML5 application is now directly accessable from the desktop and will launch outside of a browser.  Additionally key store API's are automatically included to provide your app secure authorization to protect against privacy.  Additional APIs can also be coded in Javascript to allow the app do things like local storage, run full screen without a window, and more.

Developer Services Beta

location-api

A new proof of concept application is shown using a new set of APIs that are soon to be released for beta testing for developers.  These API's allow developer to build location based applications that can run on any OS / platform and any device.  A set of 5 RESTful location based API's are used in the demo for things like Geocoding, Reverse Geocoding, Maps, Points of Interest and Directions.  In this demo we see how an Ultrabook can get Geolocation via WiFi, which locates itself at the Fira Congress here in Barcelona.  Clicking around the map on the screen does Reverse Geocoding, turning map points into address locations on the screen.  Also options to find restaurants, gas stations, transportation, and other points of interest can be located quickly.  All of this happens real time using these APIs, so the demo is not canned.  Additionally a federated login is demo'd allowing a user to login with an exisiting social network accoung.  Once that is done user preferences are associated with the mapping data providing some suggestions on what to do while in Barcelona.  One example shows a coupon for a soccer match aligned to that users interest.  Once clicked, a route is provided showing the users how to attend the match.  A final option is provided to send the information to a mobile device, where the same app is available with all the information needed.   The API's used in this app will soon be available to developers allowing them to deliver these kinds of features in applications they deploy on any Internet capabile device.

HTML5 Development Demo

HTML5 Demo

Another proof of concept demo is shown at the booth, this time showing off some rich media integration using HTML5.  A world map is shown in this demo, where a user can click on any location around the globe which will then bring up music and photography from that point on the map using popular music & photo sharing sites.  The application is using a variety of freely available APIs from a variety of sources, including Twitter Bootstrap, demonstrating how easily it is to create a very powerful and engaging application from 3rd party APIs

HTML5 Playground

HTML5Playground

HTML5 Playground was previewed on the Intel AppUp show for developer.  Here we see the online tool in action and available for developers to test code snippets or fully functional HTML5 applications in real time.  The site provided a list of helpful code samples on the left from a variety of categories.  When selecting a code sample an online HTML5 editor is available on the right pane, allowing you to edit the code.  In the bottom pane you will see the code rendered in the browser in real time, thus allowing developers to test and play with the code samples in real time

Code Monkey's - Soma Games demo

Soma-Games

In our booth we have 2 representatives from The Code-Monkeys and Soma Games, who are established developers for the Intel AppUp developer program as well as for iOS and Android.  They are on hand to demonstrate a variety of games and apps they have coded and or ported to AppUp.  On the games side they are showing off Bok Choy Boy and Wind Up Robots.  Both games are highly successful apps on a variety of platforms.  They are also demonstrating apps that they have ported to AppUp from other platforms, as 3rd party developers, such as Fandago, Mashable, Photobucket and iStreamer.

Consumer Apps

snapseed

We are showcasing a number of apps running on Ultrabooks to demonstrate the breadth and depth of consumer experiences available via AppUp.  These apps include award winning photo editing applications, educational apps to help you improve your reading skills and knowledge,  rich media apps for mixing or playing music and video, as well popular mobile games ported to AppUp

AppUp Affiliates and App Promotion

In this demo pod we are showing off the 20+ affiliate stores that provide AppUp to consumers as 3rd party branded experiences.  These include the Walmart, Dixons, Best Buy, and Tiger Direct versions of AppUp.  We are also demonstrating the co-marketing opportunities for promotion of applications via each of these affiliate store sites and store fronts

App Submission and Validation

In this booth pod we are showing developers how to submit and application to the Intel AppUp Center and we are also walking them through the validation process that happens with each app submitted to the store.  The app submissions screens are shown and explained to developers, allowing them to see how to submit apps to specific countries, languages aa well as to show them how to add in key meta data needed to make their app as accessable as possible the AppUp Store.  The validation process is also explained, covering the key areas developers need to take note of such as silent MSI packaging of their applications as well as ensuring their app content matches the content rating they selected for their appl

Intel HR

The final pod is represented by Intel HR where  developers can learn about softwware engineer career opportunities with Intel
