Abstract


HTML, CSS, and JavaScript are quickly becoming developers’ languages of choice for cross-product and cross-platform development. Many of the applications destined for app stores are converted HTML, JavaScript, and CSS applications that now run the HTML natively. This situation, new to many application developers, requires new tools and technique to optimize applications for power and performance. This paper discusses how application developers and web developers can optimize for performance and power using some of the optimization tools Intel provides.

    Windows* 8 Desktop App - Low Power Audio Playback

    Abstract

    One of the use cases for tablets with Intel® Atom™ processors and Microsoft Windows 8* is low-power audio playback. This capability allows users to continue listening to music after the device enters a low-power state commonly referred to as Connected Standby. Connected Standby is an Always On Always Connected scenario implemented in Microsoft Windows and manifest through the new Intel Atom S0ix low-power states.

    Abstract

    Connected Standby is a new feature introduced by Microsoft in Windows 8*. The use case on the tablet/mobile systems is similar to that on phones like Instant ON and Always Connected. Intel® dual-core Atom™ Z2760 (code name CloverTrail) is the first Intel platform to support Connected Standby. Interesting applications can be developed for Connected Standby to further showcase the platform capabilities like push email, multiplayer games, etc.

    Abstract


    The gradebook sample application showcases how to use Portable Class Libraries to demonstrate sharing logic across application platform targets including Windows Desktop and the Windows Store. The app then follows the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) pattern to bind to the data. We use this approach to create classes and objects that can be reused in various client applications.
