Michael Smith is the Director of the Intel® Academic Program, where he leads collaborations in parallel computing, security, visualization and mobile computing. He is a visual media architect with over 20 years of experience in computational media systems and academic collaborations. He is the author of numerous papers and a book on video indexing and search. Before joining Intel, Michael was the Director of Research with France Telecom R&D in San Francisco. He is also an advisor to the NSF Broadening Engagement Digital Library at U.C. Berkeley and he has worked at several academic institutions, including the University of Texas, Morehouse College, the University of Campinas, Brazil, the University of Trinidad and Tobago and the University of Cape Town. Michael holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University a Master's in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and a Bachelor's from Tuskegee University and North Carolina A&T State University.
