Intel® System Studio for Microcontrollers - System Requirements

At the current time there are two versions of Intel® System Studio for Microcontrollers.  The 2015 version supports the Intel® Quark™ microcontroller D1000 and the 2016 version supports the Intel® Quark™ microcontroller D2000.  This article outlines the minimum system requirements for both software suites and will indicate when when a feature or requirement is specific to just one version.

 

Supported Host Platforms

In most cases Intel® System Studio for Microcontrollers will install and work on a standard 64-bit Linux* OS distribution based on current  Linux* kernel versions without problems, even if they are not listed below. However the list below outlines the Linux* distributions the tools have been validated against.

Intel® System Studio 2015 for Microcontrollers:

  • Linux* (64 bit):
    • Ubuntu* 12.04 LTS and 14.04 LTS
    • Fedora* 19
  • Windows* (32 or 64 bit):
    • Microsoft Windows* 7 and 8.x

Intel® System Studio 2016 for Microcontrollers:

  • Linux* (64 bit only):
    • Ubuntu* 14.04 LTS
    • Fedora* 21
  • Windows* (64 bit only):
    • Microsoft Windows* 7, 8.x, and 10

Host Prerequisites and Resource Requirements

Prerequisites

Windows*

  • a. Java* Runtime Environment version 1.7 or higher must be installed in order to use Eclipse Luna IDE.
  • b. Intel® Quark™ microcontroller D1000 or D2000 Development Platform should be plugged in the host PC in order to properly install the Microsoft* WinUSB driver for JTAG 

 

Linux*

  • a. Install dependencies:
    • sudo apt-get install telnet
    • sudo apt-get install default-jre

Intel® System Studio 2015 for Microcontrollers:

Windows*

  • a. A serial connection tool (for example, PuTTY)
  •  

Intel® System Studio 2016 for Microcontrollers:

This package supports 64 bit host architecture only.

Windows*

  • a. Internet connection is required to install the TinyCrypt component.

  • Intel® 64 architecture based host computer.
  • Development platform based on the Intel® Quark™ microcontroller D1000 and/or the Intel® Quark™ microcontroller D2000.
