A Slice of Android* 9 with Celadon on Top

Celadon, an open source Android* stack for Intel® architecture, now supports Android* 9 Pie on both the Apollo Lake and Kaby Lake-based Intel® NUC reference platforms, following just a week after Pie’s public release. For the first time in Pie, developers can choose to build to the Android automotive user interface instead of the usual mobile user interface.

 

Celadon launched in May of 2018 with various components optimized on Intel architecture.

 

The following are a few implementation area details:

  • Graphics and audio: MESA graphics with OpenGL* ES 3.0 and Vulkan* 1.0, HDMI, HWC 2.0 display support, analog/USB digital audio playback, Bluetooth A2DP, and audio parameter framework for audio routing policy​
  • Video: Google software codecs and hardware accelerated decoders (H.264, H.265, VP8, VP9, JPEG) and encoders (H.264, H.265, JPEG)​
  • Machine learning: Android Neural Networks framework that can be used with the Intel® Movidius™ Neural Compute Stick for image recognition and object detection
 

New Celadon implementations and improvements are regularly enabled and updated, so be sure to check out the project’s GitHub repository for an up-to-date list of integrated features.

 

Celadon offers the compatibility of a wide range of hardware implementations on the latest Android software. This combination provides developers a more consistent experience for rapid prototyping in their journey to realize new capabilities. With the latest Android Pie update, developers can now experiment and bring those capabilities to life.
