I wanted to reach out and make sure you were all aware of a free game engine Havok is releasing later this month called Project Anarchy.
Recently announced at GDC, Project Anarchy is a free C++ game engine that combines Havok Vision Engine together with Havok’s leading Physics, Animation and AI pathfinding technologies; components of which have been used to build games like Modern Combat 4, Halo 4, Skyrim, Orcs Must Die! and Guild Wars 2. Project Anarchy bundles these technologies together with a full WYSIWYG editor, exporters for Max and Maya, and game samples and tutorials to speed up development.
It is completely free to download, deploy, and sell your game on Tizen and Android platforms. Upgrades for professional support, extended source code and deployment on additional platforms including PC are available for a fee. Given the ability with Project Anarchy to quickly move to new platforms, the risk/reward here will be easily understood based on the game’s initial success.
What’s the catch? There isn’t one. No royalties, no fine print, no crippleware and no limitations on revenue or studio size – just some co-marketing items are all we require. We’re hoping that with these options and the opportunities afforded by a large community sharing a common technology base, as well as the fact that more and more developers will grow up with our technology, we’ll all benefit from what Project Anarchy brings.
