Intel® Joule™ Development Kit Overview

The Intel® Joule™ platform is a system on module (SoM) and is available in multiple configurations that share the same footprint and interface connector placement. This enables accelerated product design by providing multiple levels of compute power, graphics performance, and memory options in a single common footprint.
Intel® Joule™ Module Configurations
There are two configurations of the module.

Intel Joule 570x module
1.7 GHZ; Turbo Boost up to 2.4 GHz
450 MHz base, 650 MHz Turbo
4GB RAM and 16GB eMMC Flash
Suggested Uses
The 550x module excels at general purpose IoT applications such as data collection, process control, or running a kiosk with a graphical user interface. The 570x module provides the additional compute power, memory, and storage required to run a full Linux desktop environment, transcode 4k video, and provides support for Intel® RealSense™ technologies.
Kit Contents
Most versions of the Intel® Joule™ development kit contain the following items:
  • A 5xx series system on module (SoM) device.
  • An expansion board that provides physical interfaces for HDMI, USB, various digital interfaces, a DC input jack, on board LEDs, and mechanical buttons
  • Dual wireless antennas with MFP.4 connectors
  • A passive heatsink solution designed for moderate workloads
  • One USB Type-C cable
A DC power supply is NOT included as the kit is available worldwide and many regions have specific local requirements for power supply certifications.
A class 2 (LPS listed) DC supply with an output of 12 VDC at 3 Amps through a center positive barrel jack with the following dimensions is recommended:
  • 2.1mm inner diameter (positive voltage)
  • 5.5mm outer diameter (negative voltage)
  • Barrel length of ~9-10mm
: If using a ZR300 camera or MIPI CSI, then an active cooling solution must be used.
