Setting Power Limit (PL1) in BIOS
- Assemble your development platform, as described in platform setup.
- Connect any intended boot devices (USB, SDCard) as the BIOS must find them to populate the selection menu.
- Have accessories connected, or a workstation configured for the chosen development method. Maximize the workstation terminal window if the display is hard to read or the font is fuzzy.
- Energise the development platform by connecting a power source.
Note: macOS* users need to depress Fn+F2 when prompted, and then select Reboot into Firmware Interface and press Enter . Then depress Fn+F2 again to open the BIOS menu. |
- Navigate to the device manager selection and press enter.
- Navigate to system devices and press enter
- Select CPU configuration and then CPU Power Management
- Set Power Limit 1 as shown; Power Limit 1 Power [#] is maximum watts consumed by the module.
- Set at 2 or less if no heatsink is attached
- Set at 4 or less if only the passive heatsink is being used in cool ambient conditions
- Set at 6 or less if a forced air fan is cooling the passive heatsink
- Settings above 6 require an Active Fan-sink solution
- While the maximum allowed power for most BIOS builds is 10, PL1=8 is recommended as the upper limit for product devices.
