Features
Build professional-grade media applications for client, mobile, and embedded IoT environments.
Overview
Enable real-time, hardware-accelerated video encoding, decoding, and processing with the full integration of Intel® Quick Sync Video. Run video and image processing with outstanding performance and high visual quality completely on the GPU while using the CPU for other tasks.
Decode, encode, and transcode video using hardware-accelerated H.265 (HEVC), H.264 (AVC), MPEG-2, VP9, VC-1, MVC, and Motion JPEG (MJPEG).
Flexible Encode Infrastructure (FEI) gives more control over the encoding process. It is only available for AVC encode with limitations.1
Support for multiple widely used video preprocessing filters:
- Color conversion
- Deinterlace
- Denoise
- Resize
- Rotate
- Crop
- Composition and alpha blending
- Frame-rate conversion
- Video signal information
- Mirroring (Windows* only)
For the Windows version:
- HEVC codec components. Software- and GPU-accelerated HEVC (H.265).
- Video Quality Caliper analysis tool performs sequence-level inspection of encoded or decoded video streams, and provides objective metrics such as PSNR and SSIM, all through an interactive interface.
- RAW video and image processing. Quickly convert RAW camera output to display-compatible formats. Apply color adjustment and effect filters in real time for visually stunning media.
- Audio decode and encode. Deliver fast, quality audio playback and encode for AAC, MPEG-1, and MPEG-2.
For the Linux* version:
- HEVC codec components. Software and GPU-accelerated HEVC (H.265).
- Metrics Monitor tool provides visibility into the GPU load metrics, utilization statistics for the hardware accelerators (such as VDBox, VEBox), and GPU execution units.

Benchmarks
Enterprise-Quality Video Codecs and Processing Tools for Data Center, Cloud, and Network Use
Our video encoders are stressed in over 500 hours of qualification testing to help ensure high product quality in a variety of use models. More than 60,000 separate qualification tests are conducted with advanced controls from Intel: AVC, MPEG-2, and video pre- and post-processing filters.

Bitrate Control
Product and Performance Information
Intel does not provide technical support for the FEI through the media community forum nor Priority Support. Building an application with FEI may take significantly more effort compared to the standard Intel Media SDK API.
FEI validation is limited. Some combinations of encoding parameters may lead to unstable application behavior, crashes, and hangs. Its API is not backward compatible. FEI is subject to the same EULA terms as Intel Media SDK. Some components are distributed as prerelease materials, which restricts their usage according to the EULA.
