Uninstalling Adobe AIR Applications from Moblin Devices

Adobe AIR is a great platform to get quickly your content and applications on MID and Netbook devices. If, during the development and testing process, you need to uninstall an Adobe AIR application that you have previously installed, there are two main methods.

Using the AIR Application Installer

The primary method is to use the .air file that you used to install the application.

1. Launch the AIR App Installer, located by default at /opt/Adobe\ AIR/Versions/1.0/airappinstaller

2. Navigate to the .air file that you used to install the application


Once the installer detects that the application has already been installed, it will give you three options:

1. Uninstall the Application

2. Reinstall the Applications

3. Launch the Application

Choose the uninstall option.

Using the System Package Manager

The previous method of uninstalling an AIR app only works if you use the same version of the .air file that you used to install the application. If you don’t have that version, or if this method doesn’t work, you can use the system package manager to uninstall the application. On Ubuntu Mobile Edition or Moblin-based operating systems, use dpkg. On Midinux, use rpm.


Use the package manager to find the name of the app:

$>PACKAGE_NAME=$(dpkg –l | grep <the generic name of your package>)


$>PACKAGE_NAME=$(rpm –qa | grep <the generic name of your package>)

Then use the package manager to uninstall the package

$>dpkg –r $PACKAGE_NAME


$>rpm –e $PACKAGE_NAME

As far as figuring out what <the generic name of your package> is, use some unique string or token that is unique to your application name. A bad example is the string 'lib' because a lot of installed packages will have that in their name and you won't get a single result. However, if you application name is 'xzq1.0', then chances are that you can use the string 'xzq' and you'll get the right package name.
