rounding

rounding

Hello,

in an old post (http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/topic/271554) i found a statement from Steve Lionel that 'rounding to even' -- ' Banker's rounding' is the standard implemented method. In the current help of ivf i wasnt able to find this information.

Is 'rounding to even' still the standard?

Thanks in advance
Frank

Hardware default rounding mentioned in that article is dictated by IEEE754 and successor standards. USE ieee_arithmetic gives access to the other rounding modes specified in IEEE754.  These rounding modes haven't changed since they were standardized.

NINT, mentioned in that article, doesn't conform with the "nearest even" part of banker's rounding. Lower case banker, it's not the name of a specific person.

Fortran offers ANINT and ieee_rint which have similar function except for the rounding of the half-way cases.  This could make a significant difference in performance.
