Create Project and Configure Target

To start performance analysis on the Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessor, do the following:

  1. Create a VTune Amplifier project.

  2. Specify an analysis target.

  3. Configure search directories for symbol resolution.

Create a VTune Amplifier Project

  1. Type amplxe-gui to launch the VTune Amplifier GUI.

  2. Create a new project via New > Project... menu.

    The Create a Project dialog box opens.

  3. Specify the project name matrix that will be used as the project directory name and click the Create Project button.

    By default, the VTune Amplifier creates a project directory under the %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Documents\Amplifier\Projects directory and opens the Project Properties: Target dialog box.

Specify an Analysis Target

Note

This tutorial focuses on analyzing a native Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor application that is copied and run on the card with the help of the runmatrix.bat file. Configuration for offload application targets does not differ from the configuration for native Windows* application targets where you just need to specify the application name with the full path in the Application field in the Project Properties: Target dialog box.

  1. In the Target tab of the Project Properties dialog box, select the Application to Launch target type.

  2. In the Application field, specify runmatrix.bat as the application to launch.

    The runmatrix.bat script runs the matrix.mic application on the coprocessor via the plink command:

    plink -l root -i <path_to_private_key_file> root@<target_system>  /tmp/matrix.mic
    

    Note

    Edit this runmatrix.bat file to add a path to the private key file on your system. In case you have multiple cards on your system, you also need to set cpip appropriately.

Configure Search Directories

When profiling native Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor applications, you are recommended to specify search directories for your binary, source and symbol files located on your host Windows system.

  1. In the Project Properties dialog box, switch to the Binary/Symbol Search tab.

  2. In the Search Directories field, click the Browse button to add the application directory on the host .

  3. Click OK to save your changes.
