How to Setup Intel® Media Server Studio on Linux*

In this article, we discuss how to install Intel(R) Media Server Studio on Linux*. The Getting Started Guide documents provides instructions for installing on the more popular Linux* OS versions. For Intel Media Server Studio, the instructions are for CentOS* 7.1 and SLES* 12, which are the primary Linux distros for this version. This article details how to install on the less popular, or secondary Linux distros, such as Ubuntu*, or Fedora. Please check the hardware configuration support described in Release Notes - Linux* before you setup Intel Media Server Studio on your system. If you want to install on a less popular, or secondary Linux distro, use the "Generic" package. A repackaged custom Intel Media Server Studio package can deploy Intel Media Server Studio on a secondary Linux distro. Please keep in mind that an issue that cannot be replicated on CentOS* 7.1 and SLES* 12, will not be addressed by Intel's tech support team.

Reposted from my blog on the Yocto Project site. Go there for more pearls of wisdom and other embedded Linux goodies.

When I initially started talking publicly about the fact that I was working on the Yocto Project, one of the first questions I got was, in essence, "Why would you need to build an OS from sources?" After all, there are plenty of distros out there who have done the hard work for you.
