April Game Dev Hardware Seeding Contest Winners!

We’re pleased to announce the winners of April’s Hardware Seeding Contest!

  • Dan Higgins of Lunchtime Studios
  • Will Bucknam of Voice To Game

A bonus is, I’ll have the joy of being able to give Dan his Cyberpower Zeus Hercules in person at Power of Play this week!

You can all expect the May Hardware Seeding Contest to be announced in couple weeks and will focus on seeding Intel powered Android tablets.

游戏公司借助英特尔® Sample Code 加速发展

Whether you are an indie game developer or a seasoned professional, you are likely to find an interesting code sample on Intel Developer Zone's game dev section. Read here to learn how Intel engineers worked with Blizzard and Codemasters to optimze our Adaptive Volumetric Shadow Maps (AVSM), Conservative Morphological Anti-Aliasing (CMAA), and Software Occlusion Culling code samples.

  • MFX_ERR_DEVICE_FAILURE on MFXVideoSession::SyncOperation

I have build an encoding pipeline integrated with ffmpeg for muxing into MP4 container in a similar fashion as the ffmpeg integration sample. Overall all works but with some issues. Very often the app experiences MFX_ERR_DEVICE_FAILURE error after which encoding no longer works when calling MFXVideoSession::SyncOperation when synchronizing for getting the bitstream data. The error lacks any pattern but there are a few things I have noticed:

Deployment of application using MSDK on linux

I'm using Intel MediaSDK on linux. (CentOS 7)

I'm not sure how to make the deployment of the applicatoin on the customer's machines.

As I understand, there is no need in additional MSDK license in case where only binaries are installed on the target machine.

On the other hand, I can't use Intel installation scripts to install it since it installs also documentation, header files and additional tools.

Do you have any common or recommended procedure for deployment of MSDK binaries on customer machines?

    Segmentation fault in MFXVideoVPP_Init

    I'm using MediaSDK 2015 R5 on CentOS 7.1

In this scenario I have 1 h.264 decoder and 1 VPP in different sessions that are joined.

In addition I use memory pools for memory allocation in my application. Operators new and delete are overloaded.

When the VPP is initialized, the process crashes. gdb gives the following stack:

    GPU monitoring API

I have installed Media SDK and successfully run samples and also FFmpeg with hardware support of Intel Quick Sync technology.

Now I want to estimate the performance of my solution and I need to get load metrics from GPU.

The only tool I've found is /opt/intel/mediasdk/tools/metrics_monitor/_bin/metrics_monitor  but it has strange format and also not perfectly suit my needs.

So I want to know is there any API which I can use in my own program which provide me an interface to GPU metrics?
