Getting Started with Havok

So you've downloaded your free version of Havok Physics and Animation and realized you don't know how to get started with it...

Step 1: Getting Havok demos running

Firstly, open up the Quickstart Guide in the Docs folder. Now section "1.2 Evaluation Checklist" lists a few thing you might want to do if you're evaluating using Havok for a larger game or considering buying a full license but if you just want to get something working with Havok you can safely skip this section for now.

New Havok Instructional Videos

Greetings everyone,

I've recently come across some rather helpful videos regarding Havok Physics which I wanted to pass along to the community. These are great instructional videos for beginners/advanced users alike and are based on the free SDK you all have. Please take a look!

How to report a Havok crash (Please read before posting)

How to report a crash

I'm not trying to single out anybody here; I'm just trying to save everybody some frustration. Let's consider the following two hypothetical forum posts:

1) "After I call hkpWorld::initMtStep, I get a message that says "hkpWorld.cpp(123): [0x12345678] Warning : I'm about to crash". Right after that I get a assert with the message "hkpWorld.cpp(234): [0x00001337] Assert : foo != HK_NULL" and this callstack:

Unable to run my Havok Demo on release mode

Hi ,
  I am using havok physics 2012 for my c++ game engine . It is working on debug mode , however in spite of setting all libraries and references , it crashes in release mode . To be more precise , it crashes when I am assigning a hkpRigidBody with access violation error. I tried with release libs and also with release_dll libs. still error persists. My pre-processor directives are
_RELEASE;_CONSOLE;HK_CONFIG_SIMD=1;

Thanks.

Getting posed bone list and sending it to OpenGL shader

Hello,

I'm writing a model viewer for a game that uses the Havok engine to provide skeletal and animation playback features. Using the demo provided, I have successfully been able to load the serialized data, display the skeleton, and play back it's animation in the Visual Debugger. My next step is to attach the skeleton to the mesh (skinning) which is currently rendered in it's default pose.
