2 Joint Knee Setup
By Steve Pitzel (Intel), published on March 13, 2012
Getting knees and elbows to deform properly can mean many hours of weighting vertices and even extra modeling. Using a 2-joint knee (sometimes referred to as 2-bone knee) setup can help you cut through the tedium and get on with animating! Download the Simple 2-Joint Knee guide for a quick "How To" that explains one way of incorporating this setup into your character rig.

The idea for 2 jointed knee/elbow is clever. However, the tutorial was more commerical, less helpful.
