Other Questions Error message after starting SOL or IDER session
After starting an SOL or IDER session, the Intel® AMT machine returns an error message (for example, "Could not establish a redirection session with the system").
Solution: Make sure that the SOL or IDER functionality in the BIOS extension is turned on.

'enter BIOS' does not work
SOL works, but when you use the 'enter BIOS' command in the redirection dialog, an error message is displayed ("operation is not supported" or "system is unreachable").
Cause: The Intel® AMT machine does not support this capability (even though the user interface shows it as supported).

GUI controls are disabled.
Cause: The action is not supported by the AMT machine or the user does not have permissions to perform the actions.

Wake-up Collection works, but Wake on Advertisement does not.
Make sure the "BIOS password bypass on advertisement" box (in the general settings dialog, advertisement tab) is not checked if the machine does not support this capability. In addition, make sure "Wake Up on Advertisement" is not disabled in the general settings dialog advertisement tab.

Operations on a collection or on SOL\IDER controls are disabled.
Cause: The logged-on user is not a member of the appropriate Active Directory security groups. Refer to the Intel® Client Manageability Add-on for Microsoft* SMS 2003 User Guide.

How do I know which operations were successful after running a collection operation?
Create an appropriate "status message query" for the Intel® AMT machine as described in the Intel® Client Manageability Add-on for Microsoft* SMS 2003 User Guide.

Can I use Kerberos or TLS in "Small Business" mode?
No, these security features are available only in "Enterprise" mode.

I’ve configured Intel® AMT on a machine but I don’t see that this machine supports Intel® AMT in the Intel® AMT Add-on for SMS.
First verify whether the problem is in the Intel® AMT machine or elsewhere. Try connecting to the Intel® AMT machine as follows:

  1. Enter the following URL in your Web browser: http://<machine name or IP address>:<port>. If the Intel® AMT machine is not set up to work with TLS, use 16992 as the port number. If the Intel® AMT machine is set up to work with TLS, use 16993.
  2. Press <enter>; the Intel® AMT logon window should open.
  3. Enter the Intel® AMT username and password and log on. If you are successful, the problem is not in the Intel® AMT machine. You might be using an older version of Intel® AMT or having difficulties resolving the hostname (DNS).

Why is a black screen displayed during a SOL session as soon as Windows starts loading?
Answer: Intel® AMT only supports text (ASCII) graphics.

I cannot locate an Intel® AMT machine using IP scan, even though I can connect to the machine using Web GUI.
Possible cause: The IP address cannot be resolved into the host name. Check the DNS forward/reverse lookup zone.

I can connect to Intel® AMT using a Web browser, but I can’t discover it using the add-on.
Cause: In order to successfully discover an Intel® AMT machine using the add-on, the DNS and DHCP servers must be configured correctly.
Solution: Make sure that the DHCP server issues a correct IP address to the Intel® AMT machine and updates the DNS server's forward and reverse lookup zones.

Also make sure that the hostname specified for Intel® AMT is identical to the one specified for the operating system.
