Normally, installing multiple updates from the same version of Intel® VTune™ Amplifier XE is prevented. Each update will check for the presence of another update. If one is found, that update will be uninstalled before installation of the new update begins. However, this policy can be bypassed if necessary.
There is generally very little reason for installing multiple updates on one system. However, if testing is needed across multiple updates of Amplifier XE, especially over a large cluster with installations on every node rather than only on certain head nodes, uninstalling one update to install a different one can become very time consuming.
A user can install VTune™ Amplifier XE in their $HOME folder (or any other folder where the user has write access). This will create a copy that is separate from the copy installed by root for system-wide access. The hardware collections will still use the driver loaded by root, but software collections can then be done by either instance installed. By using this method, a user can have one update installed that is different from the update installed for the system.
If user mode installation is insufficient, please contact Intel® Premier Support at https://premier.intel.com about additional options to meet your needs.
