MCA Recovery Feature with Linux* OS

 

Introduction

The Intel® Xeon® processor E7-8800/4800/2800 v2 product family brings new reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) features to improve the reliability of mission-critical and enterprise applications.

In order to make use of some of these features, a few changes are necessary: the Operating System version on the system may need to be enabled to support the features; and applications may need to be modified to recognize the features and put recovery in motion. This whitepaper will show how to make an application aware of the Machine Check Architecture Recovery (MCA recovery) feature with both execution and non-execution paths. The chosen operating system in this paper is the RAS-aware version of Linux*. This paper also shows how to inject errors to test whether a RAS-aware application is working correctly.

Thanks for the follow up and glad you liked the white paper. Are you looking for the GA for Intel Xeon E7 8800V2 parts with 15 cores?

Anil, Great write up.

I needed this insight for a Enterprise Super Computer that I have designed around Server Complex built around an eight socket Xeon E 7 8800 v2 with the DIMM slots loaded with 12 Tb of Flash Memory. Any other input would be welcome. any idea when the Xeon E7 15 core solution will GA?
