Performance Tools for Software Developers - Integration of Intel® Compilers for Windows* with Microsoft* products

Intel® C++ Compiler for Windows*

Separate installation of a pre-requisite Microsoft* development product is required to install and use the Intel® C++ Compiler for Windows*. Microsoft Visual Studio 2008*, Visual Studio 2005* or Visual Studio .NET 2003* (Standard edition or above) with the C++ component installed, or Visual C++ .NET 2003* Standard Edition, is supported for the Intel C++ Compiler for Windows. Please note that Microsoft Visual C++ .6.0* and Microsoft Visual Studio 98* are supported for the 10.x versions of the Intel C++ Compiler for Windows, but are deprecated, so will not be supported for versions higher than 10.x. Use of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 requires Intel C++ Compiler version 10.1.019 or later.

Microsoft Visual C++* 2005 Express Edition is supported for command-line development only. The visual development environment is not supported for the Intel C++ Compiler for Windows under the Express Edition. If using Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition, installation of the Windows Server 2003 SP1 Platform SDK* (Core SDK only) is required for building C++ applications using the Win32 API.

You can obtain a free version of Microsoft Visual C++ Express Edition by selecting the download option for this product at the web link below which will allow you to evaluate the Compiler used from the command line.

Note: The Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Premier Partner Edition component will work only with the 10.x Intel® Visual Fortran Compiler for Windows* that is available to Commercial and Academic customers. It cannot be used with the Intel C++ Compiler for Windows*.

Intel® Visual Fortran Compiler for Windows*

As of version 10.0, Commercial and Academic customers who develop applications to run on IA-32 or Intel® 64-based systems no longer need to separately purchase and install a Microsoft development product. If you do not already have installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2008/2005, or on IA-32 only, Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 or Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2003, the Intel Visual Fortran installation will install Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Premier Partner Edition. This provides the Microsoft visual development environment, including the debugger, as well as the tools and libraries needed for development from either the visual development environment or the command line. Use with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 requires Intel Visual Fortran Compiler version 10.1.019 or later.

Note: Microsoft Visual Studio Premier Partner Edition is not provided for some license types, including Evaluation and Student. Please see the System Requirements for more details.

If you will be using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Premier Partner Edition*, the following limitations apply:

  • No Microsoft language tools such as Visual C++* or Visual BASIC* are supplied and other compilers cannot be used within the Visual Studio environment
  • The Microsoft Resource Editor, used for creating and editing dialog boxes, icons and version resources, is not available. You can still use resource files that are already created.
  • Automatic conversion of Compaq Visual Fortran* projects is not available.
  • The menu option to compile an individual source file is not available.
  • Data breakpoints are not available in the debugger

These limitations do not apply if you have a separately purchased version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008/2005, or on IA-32 only, Visual Studio .NET 2003 or Visual C++ .NET 2003.

For evaluation and student customers, separate installation of a pre-requisite Microsoft* development product is required to install and use the Intel® Visual Fortran Compiler for Windows*.
