The Intel® Edison Board Software Release 2.1 is Now Available.
What's New with the Intel® Edison Development Board
This software release provides increased functionality for projects using the Intel Edison development board.
Key enhancements include:
Onboard MCU SDK - This initial version of the Intel® System Studio IoT Edition based MCU SDK allows you to add deterministic behavior to Linux* applications as a service, by programming to the built-in RTOS on the microcontroller.
Extended Audio Support - Support for Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA), PulseAudio, and GStreamer provides advanced audio support to the Intel® Edison platform. This improvement allows you to connect a variety of headsets and audio devices over USB and Bluetooth*.
Flash Tool Lite - This initial version of the Flash Tool Lite aids in Intel Edison development and production. It comes with a Command Line Interface (CLI) option, which allows you to integrate the tool into a production flow or field device management tools.
|Built-in RTOS||Add determnistic behavior to your Linux applications as a service.|
|SDK access to UART, I2C, PWM and all device GPIO||Connect to a variety of sensors and extended interfaces.|
|SDK Inter-Processor Communication (IPC) messaging with CPU wake||Use the MCU to filter sensor data, then wake up the CPU for further analytics.|
|Intel® System Studio IoT Edition IDE with integrated tools||Familiar design environment to help create your application.|
|Standard Linux audio framework||Use ALSA, PulseAudio and GStreamer framework to create your ultimate audio endpoint.|
|Audio over a USB device||Connect a variety of headsets and audio devices over USB into the audio framework.|
|Audio record from A2DP (sink) remote player, playback to an A2DP remote device||Combine Bluetooth* audio endpoints with Intel Edison.|
|Local audio playback/record by adding a hardware audio codec||Codec framework for adding your favorite audio codec via I2S port.|
Flash Tool Lite
|Multi-platform FLASH tool to ease Intel Edison development and production||Production FLASH tool for development and manufacturing on Windows, OSX or Linux.|
|Easy and Advanced modes||Easy to use, but with the power to create customized distribtutions.|
|Command Line Interface (CLI) option||Integrate into production flow or field device management tools.|
