Refinements to Microsoft Windows 8 and the introduction of system-on-chip (SoC) designs based on the Intel® Atom™ processor Z3700 series provide an option for software developers to target with innovative apps.
The rapid adoption of computing tablets has reshaped the technology landscape. In a third-quarter 2013 report, Parks Associates Research Analyst Jennifer Kent stated, “In just three years, the tablet has penetrated over a third of U.S. broadband households, with an expanding portfolio of devices and range of price points driving growth year-over-year.”1
As this trend continues, many consumers seek highly capable tablets that can securely run the familiar applications they depend on, support the high-end games they enjoy, and deliver next-generation visual experiences. For those requirements, Windows running on Intel® processors is a combination that users can turn to.
As illustrated in Figure 1, market adoption of Windows tablets has been projected to have a 42-percent compound annual percentage growth (CAGR) through 2016,2 benefiting from the growing prevalence of tablet devices as a whole.

This overall positive outlook is welcomed by software developers, who stand to gain a great deal from the growing total addressable market (TAM) for Windows applications. The extensive portfolio of development expertise, tools, and ecosystem support for Windows reveals a path to help in their market success.
Contributing further to the momentum of Windows-based tablets are the introduction of system-on-chips (SoCs) based on the Intel® Atom™ processor Z3700 series.
The SoCs incorporate elements such as integrated Intel® HD Graphics, Intel® Wireless Display,3 and 4G LTE wide area connectivity. Image Signal Processing (ISP) 2.0 helps simplify calls to library functions such as Intel® Integrated Performance Primitives, freeing developers to innovate on value-added features.
