Optimizing Game Architectures with Task-Based Parallelism by Brad Worth

Brad's talk will show how the threading approaches commonly used in games can be backed by a highly scalable task parallelism system. Task parallelism ensures that CPU resources are in maximum use, turning the locks and waits into prerequisites on unencumbered task processing. Examples will be shown on how Callbacks, Directed Acyclic Graphs, and Loop Parallelism cleanly map to tasks. The task implementations of Rendering and Long, Low-Priority Operations will be examined as fruitful areas for further research. Intel Threading Building Blocks will be demonstrated as a sample task parallelism scheduler, although the techniques are applicable to any task parallelism implementation. Register to attend today.
