Google has recently made changes that better support for the Intel architecture through Android apps published on Google Play. Google Market now supports CPU architecture (ABI) as a filter criteria for Multiple APKs.
This new filter allows publishing separate APKs for each target architecture, reducing the download data size for each device, while maintaining a single application and associated data in the Google Market. This new feature will be of great interest to Developers who currently either have separate applications for each architecture, or have delayed native x86 support to avoid large APK downloads.
This is important because it gives developers a way to improve the user experience for end users.
They have documented the changes to the APK process here:
Intel specific refinements to the Google’s APK process is coming shortly.
