Intel Android* at MWC 2013: ZTE to Use Intel Processors in Smartphones & Tablets

­China's ZTE has announced a deal to use Intel chips in its forthcoming smartphones. The company said that it would use the new Intel Atom Processor Z2580 platform recently announced at Mobile World Congress for a range of smartphones.

Many consumers haven't heard of ZTE in US Market, but  according BusinessWire Article, ZTE is the No. 4 mobile handset manufacturer in the world according to global industry analyst IDC. ZTE produces a complete range of mobile devices including mobile phones, tablets, mobile broadband modems and hotspots, and family desktop integration terminals. At MWC 2013, ZTE is head-to-head to compete with Samsung, LG, HTC and other big smartphones makers.

ZTE confirmed that it is already working with Intel to develop smartphones based on the new processor. The platform's dual-core processor with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology provides double the compute performance and up to 3x graphics capabilities over the previous generation Intel Atom Z2460 processor while delivering the same battery life. ZTE Grand Series ( as shown below) is running latest Android* Jellybean with some eye-catching UI ( See the photo below on the right).

This latest engagement builds on the multi-year relationship between ZTE and Intel that has already produced the ZTE Grand X IN, ZTE's first smartphone with Intel Inside. "Our work with ZTE has been instrumental as we work to expand our portfolio of mobile products and bring to market exciting new designs with Intel Inside, It's great to work with ZTE on the new family of Intel Atom processors for smartphones and we're confident that the combination of high performance, competitive battery life and overall value will be appreciated by consumers," said Hendrik Unkel, Director for Marketing and Business Development at Intel.

ZTE also demoed its first low budget phone running  FireFox OS which just launched in MWC 2013.

Not everything is on Android*. ZTE also shows MWC attendees a Windows 8 tablet using Intel processor with 10.1 inch HD screen and suprising GSM/UMTS/LTE network capability. Like a Windows  Ultrabook, it has some very attractive features ( see photo below on the right).
