First of all,  I am a newbie in this field and my line of questioning might sound rusty. Please, bear with me.

I have downloaded and installed the Intel Studio some time ago (about 7 month). I did very little with it since I was interested on the C++ compiler more than anything else. On a latter date,  I installed Visual Studio 2012 and latter VS 2013.  last night I re-installed the Visual Studio XE 2013 SP 1  update 3.  My machine runs  Windows 8.1  on 64 Bit from an Intel CPU.

Here is what troubles me.

First, desktop shows only a few deprecated icons (Download Intel(R) Desktop Utilities and the old web link to Studio XE   2013 SP1 Update 1).  The installation of Studio XE 2013 SP1 Update 3  ran successfully without any warning signs that something gone wrong. I had expected to see desktop icons relevant  to the updated XE 2013  applications.

Second,  From starting VS 2013 or VS 2012 , the Intel Software Manager crashes.  Not good. What is this software use for and what is this a sign of a bad installation?

Thirds:  From Visual Studio 2013 shows a  menu  project icon name

Getting Started with Intel® Advisor XE.  This icon when selected, fires the project within Visual Studio 2012.  Is the Intel Studio XE2013 not compatible with VS 2013?

Please, feel free to comment about my issue including any suggestion about an alternate  location considered more appropriate  to address this subject.
