I would just like to thank Intel for the efforts on Intel C compiler.
The FreeBSD ports system includes a package for Intel C v8.1, which I evaluated by compiling a Ruby interpreter and compared it to the built-in GCC v3.4.6. It uses linux emulation but spits out FreeBSD binaries.
Running a simple fractal-generating benchmark script, I found the Intel C-generated Ruby binary gave an average 17.5% speed-up on my Core2Duo workstation!
My question is: can Intel please assist the FreeBSD project by donating some resources to make an up-to-date, native port?
