96% the way into the installation, it craps out saying that it is unable to create a "Visual Fortran 5.0" program folder in the start menu. It is suggested that I make the folder myself and retry the installation. I make the properly named folder in Documents and Settings start menu, but that fails, too. Does anyone know if it is impossible to install v5.0 on XP or am I doing something wrong?

This is usually due to not having administrator rights or some other protection issue. However, we know of several things in 5.0 that don't work right in XP - please consider getting the 6.6 upgrade.
