I tested many web app and most of them can not play my MP4 (By the way, the mp4 is ripped from a DVD on Mac http://dvdrippingsoftwares.org/dvdtips/dvd-to-mp4-mac.html ).

The encapsulator plays only free codec types. Mpeg4 or mp3 are not available (due some license things). You have to use OGG Vorbis, webM or, as we do, flash.

Yes

I too trying the same to make a movie apps but i am not clear
what kind of movie format encapsulator supports ? and what movie player ?

Kindly please help if somebody has some experience.

Thanks

Hey Rahul and Kumaran
Encapsulator doesn't directly support the video ..its really the underlying flash plugin and player that you use.

So, if your flash video is working when embedding flash and testing in firefox, it should probably work with encapsulator too.

Rahul - 2 requests
1) can you share the object or embed tag that you are using (note: I use embed tag with encapsulator).
2) can you put a small sample video file on the web that we can check for testing?

Kumaran - about 6 or 7 months ago I played around with MP4+h264 and the jwplayer flash player (http://www.longtailvideo.com/players) with some success. But you should also be able to embed youtube (which uses flash) or even other 3rd party flash players.

What is your HTML DOCTYPE ?

Hi,

I tried soundmanager2 and soundmanager1 which use flash to play audio, and they both did not work.

soundmanager2: http://www.schillmania.com/projects/soundmanager2/
soundmanager 1: http://www.schillmania.com/projects/soundmanager/

I was hoping they could be used because html5 Audio does not work.

Unfortunately that means it seems impossible to use sound with the encapsulator at the moment :( Kind of annoying since I just spent the last week integrating sound effects and music with my friend.

cheers,

Hi,

Note, the recently released QtWebKit 2.2 has html5 Audio and Video support:
http://trac.webkit.org/wiki/QtWebKitFeatures22

So hopefully when the encapsulator upgrades the version of QtWekKit it uses then they will work.

cheers,

Hi Rene - I'm of the of the AppUp encapsulator developers. Regarding sound - its true that there are problems in our current QT Webkit with HTML5 audio and video. Sound *should* work if using flash. I have not tried the soundmanager stuff suggested by others on this thread but I have seen apps using swf and sound.

Re QT Webkit v 2.2 - we're actively looking at that - please stay tuned (next few days we should know more).

Here's a link to a post by one of our engineers, Raghav, with a bunch of details about our current webkit. I'm sure you're aware of these - but they maybe helpful to others on the forum too :) http://appdeveloper.intel.com/en-us/article/html5-feature-compatibility-intel-appup-encapsulator-beta

If you are embedding an SWF located in the local directory, not on the network, it will not play/work due to flash security settings. While embedding a YouTube video works, using Soundmanager2 to play app sounds will not.

Possible workarounds are:
1) Creating a trusted locations/files file as described here:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS2LCR/Flash_10.0/help.html?content=00000460.html#244861
and here:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3914389/change-flash-security-whilst-offline

2) Changing your flash security settings here (adding a path to the folder with SWF in question to trusted locations list):
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager.html

3) Make sure you have internet connection and load your JS/SWF files from the network.

Please note that I used the word "workarounds" instead of "solutions".

Hope this helps someone.

This is what I've been experiencing as well. I sure hope this problem with audio gets solved soon. What good is an HTML5 application if most of the HTML5 spec isn't implemented in the browser?
