Integration with Visual Studio 2010?

Integration with Visual Studio 2010?

Massimo's picture

I have just bought a new laptop (Window 8.1) and I would like to move all my files and settings from the old PC, where I have Fortran XE 2011 integrated in Visual Studio 2010. On the new PC I have installed Visual Studio 2010 but the setup of Fortran XE 2011 installed Visual Studio 2005 and integrates it to this version, not to VS2010. I have tried modify, repair, nothing helps. I have read the procedure described at http://software.intel.com/en-us/node/159008?wapkw=fortran namely

cd %VS100COMNTOOLS%
cd ..\..\Intel Fortran\VFPackages
integrate.bat "%VS100COMNTOOLS%" /u
integrate.bat "%VS100COMNTOOLS%"

but I do not have a folder with that name.

What should I do to get XE2011 correctly integrated in VS2010?

By the way, I understand the XE2011 cannot be integrated in VS2013, is that correct?

Thank you in advance.

First of all, Visual Fortran Composer XE 2011 would never install VS2005. Depending on which update you had, it would install either VS2008 Shell or VS2010 Shell if and only if you didn't already have a supported version of Visual Studio installed (and VS2010 would be supported.)  You should read Which versions of Microsoft Visual Studio are supported by various Intel compiler versions? Perhaps you installed Intel Visual Fortran Professional Edition 11.0? That's the last version to include VS2005 Premier Partner Edition.

You say you have VS2010 installed. Please open that, select Help > About. Click "Copy Info" and paste the result into a reply here. Please also confirm the exact version of Fortran you are trying to install. What would be best is if you could tell me the exact name of the installer executable, which will start with w_fcomp.

You are correct that the 2011 edition of our product will not integrate with VS2013. The first version to support that is Composer XE 2013 SP1 Update 1.

I have several compiler files, which, if I remember correctly, I obtained as updates. I attach a screenshot of the folder containing these files. If I try to install any of the recent ones, the setup program complains that it lacks something to integrate in VS. The only one which goes straight is the "InterFortran11_withVisualStudio.exe" (I had probably renamed it). This is probably the 11.0.

I am going to uninstall everything by VS2010 and try a clean install of the compiler from a more recent file. If you disclose where is the culprit, I would be very grateful if you can give me some hint.

Well, I really must have messed up the installation files! After uninstalling, cleaning registries, rebooting, I have reinstalled the 2011.10.3.25 file and now it is integrated in VS2010! The only annoying thing is that although I have uninstalled VS2005 and even removed the folder, WindowsUpdate still asks me to install an update. Some memory left which does not want to be wiped off?

It is probably an update for the C++ runtime from VS 2005, which may be being used by some other application and/or has been left there as a convenience.

Massimo's picture

Could be. But the installation systematically fails, which make me thinking the components to install are really gone but perhaps the OS does not realise it?

You can check in Programs and Features to see what VS2005 features are still present.

Sorry if I sound dumb, but where do I find "Programs and Features"? In the control panel? The list of installed programs does not shown any entry for VS2005. The only "2005" entry is MS SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition but the installed date is previous to date I bought the PC so it must be part of the Windows installation.

Steve Lionel (Intel)'s picture

Yes - Control Panel. This is the list of installed programs - what it is called varies by Windows version.

Well, no entries there, as I said. Oh well, I have masked the updates so that WinUpdate won't ask me again to install them. Maybe one day I'll figure out what's wrong. Anyway, thank you for your help!
