Forgot Windows 8.1 login password

Forgot Windows 8.1 login password

suddenly can't remember the login password for my old laptop. It is used to be a code hub for previous projects. I tried Kon Boot and Ntpasswd but with no avail. Anyone in here know how to remove or reset the password without damaging the computer? thanks

As long as you can access the Startup Repair, you can reset your lost windows password with this backdoor:

No CD or USB drive is required. I have ever tested this method on Windows 7 and it worked flawlessly. But I don't have a Windows 8 PC to check if it also works.

If you can't access the windows .. use a boot (Windows 8.1) DVD then access the command prompt .. and follow this method

The startup repair won't work on Windows 8.1. And I got an error message saying 'table not found ' via using ophcrack.

There are many free and paid software can help reset windows 8 password like NTPasswd, Ophcrack, UUkeys windows password recovery.

For using NTpassword.

First go to the official website of NTPasswd and grab a copy of the bootable CD image. To install NTPasswd onto a blank CD, Right-click on the ISO file and then click “Burn disc image” option. If your system doesn’t have built-in support for burning, you can take use of the free burning tool ISO2Disc.

When the bootable NTPasswd CD is ready, it’s time to reset your lost Windows password. Insert the CD into the optical drive and restart the target computer. You might have to adjust the BIOS to allow booting from the CD.

For using UUkeys windows password recovery.

Prepare a USB flash drive for making a bootable USB reset disk, then insert this USB to your locked windows 8.

That's always good to know.

Thanks!

There are many ways you can do:

1. Reset your PC.

The Reset Your PC process in Windows 8 is very different than just resetting your password. This process removes all of your installed programs, apps, and even all of your saved data.

2. Reset your password with MS online site.

https://account.live.com/password/reset

3. Reset your windows 8 password with pre-created DVD reset disc.

4. Reset your windows password some tools like iSeePassword windows password recovery Pro, ophcrack.

Want to remove your password altogether? There’s another live CD for that: Offline NT Password And Registry Editor (clever name, right?) Also available as a live CD, this simple tool allows you to completely remove the password for any account on any system up to Windows 7. All you need to do after that is log in, but be sure to set a new password – you don’t want to leave your system insecure.

Can you retrieve your password through Microsoft Account? I am using Windows 7, or you can use Startup Repair to solve this problem like me. If you have another user with the same administrative rights, this is the easiest, you can reset the password on another computer via Control Panel > User Accounts and Home Security > User Accounts > Manage Another Account. These are all ways to reset Windows 7 password without a disk and hope to be able to unlock your Windows 8.1.

A password reset disk could really come in handy if you forgot Windows 8 password. If you have previously created a password reset disk for your user account in Windows 8, then you can now use it to bypass Windows 8 password easily. Follow the step-by-step instructions:

Once you've typed the wrong password, Windows 8 will show a Reset password link below the login box.

Click on Reset password. Make sure that password reset disk is plugged into the computer at this point.

When the Password Reset Wizard appears, click Next to continue.

Select the right password reset disk. Click Next.

Type in a new password and a hint for the password. Click Next.

Click Finish. Now you can log in to your PC with the new password.

Method 2

PCUnlocker is the software which allows you to bypass Windows 8 administrator and user passwords easily.

  1. Download the self-extracting Zip file of PCUnlocker package.
  2. Uncompress the package, there is a ISO image: pcunlocker.iso. Burn it onto a CD/DVD or USB flash drive.
  3. Boot your locked computer from the newly burned CD/DVD or USB flash drive.
  4. Wait until the boot process is finished. When a window pops up with all your Windows accounts, select the target one to reset the password.

If you are really looking for something solid and tested on the market (I mean more than 10 years on the market) and used by variety of IT pros check "kon-boot" . Right now Kon-Boot is the only tool which is able to bypass Windows 10 live/online accounts. Works also on Apple Macs and Linux. You can google for the "free" version, it is floating around.

Reset Laptop Windows 8.1 Password with Windows 8.1 Installation CD

2. A dialog with several options pops up, click Command Prompt.
3. When a Command Prompt black screen appears, copy sethc.exe. Then copy cmd.exe to sethc.exe.
4. Restart your computer. On the login screen, tap Shift key five times and you'll see a command prompt screen in administrator mode. OK, type "net user UserName NewPassword" (replace the UserName and UserPassword with which you wanna) and press Enter key. The user password will be replaced with new one. Close the window and then you can login your Windows 8.1 with new password. This tip also works for WIndows 8/8.1.
