Are overlays supported on a display when it is rotated 90 degrees?

I have an embedded board running XPE that is using an 852/855 chipset. When I run the display driver rotated 90 degrees my software reports that no directx overlay surfaces are available.

So does the driver support overlays when it is operating in rotated mode?

If I switch to a board with a newer chip (say an Atom with the GMA950) would it support overlays when rotated?

The reason for the overlay is I have a Video capture chip that can be a bus master and dma its data directly into memory. In normal mode I would get a overlay surface and have the chip directly put the data in to the overlay.

As a lesser alternative are there any directx calls that I can use from my ring 0 driver to put the data in to the display surfaces?

Thanks
Tom
