1024x640 resolution on GM965 Express, Dell XPS 1330 notebook

Hello there,

just bought dell xps 1330 laptop. The only widescreen resolution is 1280x800, it is too small for me, im getting eyestrain after a hour by working with it.

More comfortable should be 1024x640 resolution, is it possible to modify GM965 Express driver to apply it? I acctualy dont know does my monitor support it.. I use Windows XP Professional.

Hello domas,

your 13,3" TFT display has a native resolution of 1280 x 800 pixel. There are indeed ways of displaying different resolutions on this display, but the display has to interpolate pixels in this case. The result is a blurry display with even more eyestrain for most people. That's why it's not enabled by default.

The solution proposed by Microsoft is that you increase the DPI (dots per inch) telling the number of pixels actually present per inch. If you do your maths correct (sentence of Pythagoras) you will discover that your display has 113,5 dpi. Try telling Windows 120dpi (the default is 96) according to this guide:
http://www.lawfirmsoftware.com/support/change_dpi_settings_xp.htm

The result will be enlarged fonts. The resolution still used is 1280 x 800 and results in smoother font edges and more fine grained drawings etc. Internet Explorer adapts to that setting, but I don't know whether Firefox does. You might want to enlarge fonts in the one or other application manually.

There exist some cases where certain icons or symbols do not get enlarged, but please first try this one. In general it's the better solution.
