Hi radhe, thanks for your post. Please check out our Wireless Developer Center to learn more about wireless technologies.

We also have a Handheld/Wireless forum. I encourage you to ask your question there and learn about the Intel PCA and Intel XScale? processors which are used in many handheld and wireless products.

Do you work or plan to work with wireless technologies in the near future?

Dear Irena, Thank you for that link, besides finding the answer to my specific question, I also found a host of other material that shall prove to be invaluable.

Hi Radhe-

There are certainly several different types of wireless technology. Personally, to keep track of all the technologies I like to think of them in three buckets: (1) Wireless LAN (WLAN); (2) Wireless WAN (WWAN); And (3) Cellular technologies (such as GSM). You can begin your research by searching the Web or you can start at the following sites:

(1) http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/802/11/index.html
(2) http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/802/16/index.html
(3) http://www.gsmworld.com/index.shtml

Of course I failed to mention technologies in the Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) area, such as Bluetooth.

The Intel Technology Journal published an issue on "Wireless Technologies" last month. This may be a great place for you to start. You can find the paper at: http://www.intel.com/technology/itj/2003/volume07issue03/art03_union/p01_abstract.htm

I hope this gets you moving in the right direction. If you have more specific questions, please ask.

Hello Justin,

Thank you so much for taking time out to reply. I did find out from the link Irena posted regarding Bluetooth,, Wi-Fi and cellular WWAN networks. The links that you suggested are of immense help and I think I am getting lost in the wealth of knowledge that lies in a wee little corner of the web.

Thanks again!
