Serial Terminal Communications

This section contains steps to access the command line interface on the development platform by setting up serial communication. The command line gives you direct access to the development platform to perform essential tasks, like opening firewall ports, connecting to Wi-Fi*, enabling Bluetooth® wireless technology, and more.

Note: A lag can exist between sending commands over the serial link and the corresponding key to be echoed on the display. There can also be a delay when the platform is sending complex graphical data to the workstation terminal window.

There are a great number of terminal applications available for modern workstations; the most common settings are listed and one example is given for Linux, MacOS and Windows respectively.

The serial port baud rate defaults to 115200.

Serial over USB cable

A microUSB cable must be connected between the microUSB port on the expansion board and the development workstation. The expansion board includes a USB to UART bridge that translates the modules RS232 feed into a USB protocol.
