There is a new Crosswalk option in the CLI 5.1.1 and CW15 build system that allows you to select one of two different "performance" modes for Crosswalk. Here's what you need to use, within your intelxdk.config.additions.xml file:
There are many instances of Android and Crosswalk builds using CLI 5.1.1 that result in an error message similar to the following (see the end parts of the detailed build error log for an example similar to the following):

The latest versions of Intel XDK (2496 and up) now include a Plugin Management Tool that simplifies adding and managing Cordova plugins. We urge all users to manage their plugins from existing or upgraded projects using this tool. If you were using intelxdk.config.additions.xml file to manage plugins in the past, you should remove them and use the Plugin Management Tool to add all plugins instead.
Why you should be using the Plugin Management Tool:
One of our very passionate developers has discovered a very odd problem with the Facebook Connect plugin, that is caused by performing a simple copy and paste action from the Facebook Dashboard to the Intel XDK. Probably for responsive design reasons, if your Facebook App Name is 11 or more characters long there will be "soft hyphen" characters inserted into your Facebook app's name. These extra characters are hidden from view, but they are part of the name that you copy from the Facebook dashboard.
Hello Intel XDK Developers:
Today we released a hot-fix for the Intel XDK; the new version number is 2548. This fix only applies to the mainstream Intel XDK release and does not apply to the Intel XDK IoT Edition or Intel XDK Early Access releases.
This update was released to fix the following issues that are being experienced with the September release (version 2496):
There is an undocumented change to version code handling by the Crosswalk and Android build systems based on Cordova CLI 5.1.1. This change was implemented by the Apache Cordova project. This new version of Cordova CLI automatically modifies the android:versionCode when building for Crosswalk and Android.
If you are experiencing issues with the 2496 release, please first try to completely uninstall the XDK and re-install version 2496 of the XDK. For instructions on how to completely uninstall Intel XDK from your system, see this forum post: https://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/intel-xdk/topic/542074
The Intel XDK build system will stop supporting Cordova CLI 3.3 and CLI 3.5 builds on Monday, September 21. Please upgrade your existing projects to CLI 4.1.2 ASAP! The current production release of the Intel XDK (v2366) defaults to CLI 4.1.2 for all new projects. Insure that you are using the most recent version of the XDK so you can upgrade your project to CLI 4.1.2.
