Intermittent Multi-Threading Bugs: Find and Squash Races, Deadlocks, and Memory Bugs

  • Overview

How often do you have to tell a customer: "We can't reproduce the problem here, so we can't fix it. Please send us a test case." Threading errors like deadlock and race conditions can be especially nasty to debug because they are intermittent. You can run the test case 99 times with no bug, but on run 100, your app crashes.

This webinar gives examples of how Intel® Inspector works with your favorite debugger to break just before the error occurs, so you can diagnose the cause. You’ll get practical advice for minimizing test time as well, plus tips for effective regression testing to find new issues before your product ships.

Benchmark results were obtained prior to the implementation of recent software patches and firmware updates intended to address exploits referred to as "Spectre" and "Meltdown". Implementation of these updates may make these results inapplicable to your device or system.

Software and workloads used in performance tests may have been optimized for performance only on Intel microprocessors. Performance tests, such as SYSmark and MobileMark, are measured using specific computer systems, components, software, operations and functions. Any change to any of those factors may cause the results to vary. You should consult other information and performance tests to assist you in fully evaluating your contemplated purchases, including the performance of that product when combined with other products. For more information, see Performance Benchmark Test Disclosure.

An excellent video presentation of the capabilities of the Intel Inspector tool.  Is there any chance the PDF of the slides could be updated?  The PDF I downloaded (1.16 MB) is missing the slides (shown in the video) with the following headings:  Memory Problem Analysis, Threading Problem Analysis, Data Race, Deadlock, and Cross-thread Stack Access.  Thank you!

I've sent you a message with the missing slides. Please let me know if there are any issues with them.
