How to Import Old VTune™ Analyzer Sampling Data into VTune Amplifier XE

The VTune™ Amplifier XE product cannot directly import old VTune Performance Analyzer projects. Nor can the graphical-user interface (GUI) import old data, directly. Only old VTune analyzer sampling data can be imported and it must be done indirectly. Below are the steps to view the old data within the GUI, standalone or integrated within Visual Studo*.

  1. Open a command window using the Parallel Studio XE 2011 Start menu shortcut for a Command Prompt, e.g. Start -> Intel Parallel Studio XE 2011 -> Command Prompt -> Parallel Studio XE -> (32 or 64-bit and appropriate Visual Studio).
  2. Now import the sampling data via the Amplifier XE command line interface:

    > amplxe-cl -import <path-to-results>\foo.tb5 -result-dir <path-to-dir>\foo

This command will import the .TB5 file and write the Amplifier XE compatible results directory specified by the parameter to -result-dir option. Use the -search-dir option to inform the Amplifier XE where to search for binary and/or symbol files. (See output of amplxe-cl -h command for a list of options.) You can also have the Amplifier XE re-resolve the symbol references after importing the results. See the help topic Re-finalizing Results.
  3. Import the results directory into the VTune Amplifier XE by opening the standalone GUI or starting Visual Studio, if the Amplifier XE has been integrated. Select the menu item File -> Open -> Result...
