Chauffeured Prototype
A subject is walked through a simple outline version of a product or service, guided by a representative of the development team. Anything which confuses or isn’t clear to the subject is flagged.

Collaborative Design
Allows a broad group of users, project team members and stakeholders to review ongoing design work at any stage. Their input is then distilled down and integrated into following iterations.

Content Strategy
Defines the plan to manage site content throughout its full lifecycle. The plan may cover frequency and source of updated material, budget, business goals and alignment with marketing campaigns and external events.

Diagnostic Pretesting

Undertaken to gauge users’ subjective reaction to a given design approach. Using Mockups, designs are presented to individual subjects or focus groups and reactions are recorded.

Eye Tracking

Using specialized technology and equipment to record a user’s point of vision, to better understand their visual focus during their interactions with a product or service. Often used to refine Information Design

Information Architecture (IA)
Definition of a product or service’s overall structure, in a way that is best suited to its goals, combined with the users’ expectations and understandings.

Defines the layout of the various components (menus, dropdowns, buttons, etc.) of individual pages of a product or service and how they relate to each other

Interaction Design (IxD)
Defines the most effective interaction patterns, features and content, driven by user research and the goals of the product or service. Additionally, interface behaviors (roll-over actions, drag and drop selections, menu types, etc) may also be specified.

Look and Feel

Addresses the product or service’s key Visual Design elements (layout, colors, fonts, images, etc) - the ‘look’ – and also the quality and behavior of the interactive elements (buttons, drop downs, menus, etc.) - the ‘feel’

Mockups

Generally considered the next step following Wireframes. They include the product or service’s actual Visual Design elements, but they are still at a relatively flexible stage of the project, when changes can be made at lower cost.

Mood Board
A physical or digital collage, designed to communicate an overall visual style or approach. Often images of items (cars, clothes, interiors, photographs, etc.) which possess a similar style to the proposed product or service will be used.

Paper Prototyping

Rough, often hand-drawn representation of the user interface, utilized in basic Usability Testing to gather feedback. A fast and effective way of refining a product or service’s overall layout and design

Reflects all aspects of a user’s interaction with a service, product and/or brand. It encompasses user’s emotional responses, value perceptions, current and future expectations along with more practical considerations, such as system functionality.

A group of users, representative of the target audience, being given a series of typical tasks to accomplish, using anything from a rough prototype to a fully working version of the software. The aesthetics of the User Interface, encompassing: adherence to brand guidelines; projection of the selected style and coherence of graphic layout; imagery and font selection.

A simple visual guide, used in the early stages of design and created to illustrate the overall structure and functionality of the pages of a website or application.

Workflow Diagram
