The Ridiculous Tablet vs PC Debate

[Opinion: The Ridiculous Tablet vs. PC Debate that wasn't]

Let me just get this out of the way so you know where I stand. Tablets are another PC form factor. It's just that simple. To claim otherwise comes off as trying to be sensationalistic to sell a story, naive, or possibly disingenous.  Sound too harsh?  Well allow me to explain as I'd rather not be on the side that's confusing and obfuscating what's really going on inside the complexities of the PC market.  Let's dissect what a PC is and why a Tablet is one.

Developing applications using Intel® Perceptual Computing Technology

Abstract

Perceptual computing is reshaping the way we interact with our devices, making it more natural, intuitive, and immersive. Devices will be able to perceive our actions through hand gestures, finger articulation, speech recognition, face tracking, augmented reality, and more. To support perceptual computing, Intel introduced the Intel® Perceptual Computing SDK, a library for pattern detection and recognition algorithms.

  • Intel Highlights für Entwickler bei der Developer Week 2013 in Nürnberg

Die jährliche Developer Week 2013 Konferenz von der Neue Mediengesellschaft Ulm mbH fand vom 24. – 26.Juni 2013 in Nürnberg statt.

Perceptual Computing Hacknights: Highlights from Munich and San Francisco

June 2013 was a good month for perceptual computing, as multiple workshops and hacknights were held in both San Francisco and Munich.

    Munich

There was one free perceptual computing workshop planned in Munich in June, created with the intent to help developers become familiar with the Perceptual Computing SDK and the Creative*Gesture Camera Kit:

Interview with San Francisco Intel Perceptual Computing Hackathon Winner Cyrus Lum

There were a lot of standout developers at the recent San Francisco Perceptual Computing Hackathon, one of which was Cyrus Lum, a veteran in the industry with 25 years of experience in game production, development and management roles with both publishing and independent development companies. Cyrus won with the overall Hackathon Grand Prize of $3000 with his “MyPetShadow”; a fun pet game which integrates both voice recognition and hand gestures. Here’s a video of MyPetShadow in motion:
