Using Feature Detection to Write Cross-Platform HTML5 Packaged Web Apps

One of the promises of HTML5 is to enable cross-platform apps; meaning that you can write one app that runs on multiple platforms (using a single source code base). This is the ideal for HTML5 apps; the reality is that HTML5 web apps are mostly cross-platform and sometimes require conditional code to deal with platform-specific quirks and differences.

  • RealSense Unity Toolkt and Unity 5. Unity 5 needs 64 bit DLLs

    While experimenting with RealSense and Unity 5 the other day, I discovered that I was getting the following error.

    Failed to load 'Assets/Plugins/libpxccpp2c.dll', expected 64 bit architecture (IMAGE_FILE_MACHINE_AMD64),but was IMAGE_FILE_MACHINE_I386.....

    What this means is that the libpxccpp2c.dll getting distributed by the RealSense Unity Toolkit is the 32 bit version of the DLL.  There is a very simple fix which is to simply copy the 64bit version and replace the 32 bit version of the DLL into Assets/Plugins.

    Calculating “FLOP” using Intel® Software Development Emulator (Intel® SDE)

    Purpose

    Floating point operations (FLOP) rate is used widely by the High Performance Computing (HPC) community as a metric for analysis and/or benchmarking purposes. Many HPC nominations (e.g., Gordon Bell) require the FLOP rate be specified for their application submissions.

    The methodology described here DOES NOT rely on the Performance Monitoring Unit (PMU) events/counters. This is an alternative software methodology to evaluate FLOP using the Intel® SDE.
