Code for Good is a collaboration between the Software and Services Group (SSG) and Corporate Affairs Group (CAG) at Intel that combines software expertise and problem solving with pressing global issues. The first Code for Good Hackathon event took place in Hillsboro, OR on March 20, 2012. Around 50 Intel employees volunteered their day, along with their software, project planning, and problem solving skills to focus on problem statements collected from some of Intel's nonprofit partner organizations. The theme of this first event was girls in education. On Day 2, the hackathon teams shared their accomplishments, and judges awarded a Grand Prize of $5000 to the charity of the teams choice, along with two $1000 gift cards to GlobalGiving.org. Future Code for Good events are being planned to get non-Intel developers and students involved, and to focus on other global issues. Stay tuned, and contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you'd like to learn more, or get involved.
