Hi,

One of my ISV is interested to buy ATOM Embeded ToolKit and have below query before placing an order:

. If they go for Intel embedded tool suite, is it a superset containing both MATH library and application development suite? Do we supply a JTAG hardware also with this tool for Kernel debug?

With Intel App development Tool suite, can they build linux kernel optimally? We may not need Kernel debugging facility.

Is it a node locked license or user locked license?

We are seeing that this toolkit can only be installed in Fedora 11 and 12. Is it really a limitation or can be overcome by some tricks?

We have not founded any cross platform option for N270 or N450. It is supporting only media series CE3100 and CE4100 and the Z series of atom which we are not going to use.

What extra we get in Embedded ToolSuite? basically what is the real difference in App ToolSuite and Embedded ToolSuite.

Does any JTAG debugger hardware come with Embedded ToolSuite?

How can we optimize Intel compilers for N270 or N450 series?

Does the host have to be Fedora 11 or 12? Or how can we install Intel toolchainset in other flavours of Linux namely Redhat 5 server or Suse Linux 10 server?

Answer: The Intel Embedded Software Development Tool Suite for Intel Atom Processor is the full development package including compiler with the Intel Integrated Performance Primitives Library (I'm not sure what you mean with 'MATH' library), application and sysem debugger as well as the performance analyzer. A JTAG hardware device is not included in this package; it's just the software develompent tools.

With Intel App development Tool suite, can they build linux kernel optimally? We may not need Kernel debugging facility.

Answer: You can build the kernel with all the options you like. To debug the kernel, it must be compiled with debug information enabled.

Is it a node locked license or user locked license?

Answer: It's a user locked license. The user can install the tools on any machine, but use it only once at a time (re. EULA). On the same machine, the user can run several instances of the tools, e.g. start the compiler twice for different compilations in parallel.

Answer: Fedora* 10 and 11 have been validated for Intel Media Processor CE3100 and Intel Atom Processor CE4100 targets.That does not mean that the Atom tools are not running on other Linux distributions. Usually the tools are running on other Linux distributions; sometimes workarounds may be required.

Answer: We tested the JTAG debugger on the Z series. We also worked on some N series platforms, but support for it wasn't explicitly verified. There shouldn't really be any difference in debugging a N or Z series Atom processor.

Answer: The only difference is the JTAG Debugger that is part of the Embbeded Toolsuite, whereas the Application Toolsuite contains the Application Debugger onnly.

Answer: No.

How can we optimize Intel compilers for N270 or N450 series?

Answer: The compiler fully support Atom processor. The only thing to do is to set the Atom specific compiler switch.

Does the host have to be Fedora 11 or 12? Or how can we install Intel toolchainset in other flavours of Linux namely Redhat 5 server or Suse Linux 10 server?

Answer: All listed Linux distributions under the 'Sytem Requirements' section in the respective release notes are tested. Other Linux distributions may also workwithout any problems or with little modifications. The Intel C++ Compiler is highly optimized for the Intel9R0 Atom processors including the ones you mention. The key is to use the optimization switch -xSSE3_ATOM. YOU can find more details in the following article:

Does any JTAG debugger hardware come with Embedded ToolSuite?

For the Z5xx series the Macraigor Systems usb2Demon device is supported http://www.macraigor.com/intel/

We also on a CNDA and LPIA only basis could provide limited loaners of an Intel XDP-ITP probe if the FAE or business unit associated with a specific customer cannot support them for the Intel JTAG Debugger

The entire tool suite is designedto supportcross development principles. From integration into Moblin/MeeGo build environments to local SEP sampling for the VTune Performance Analyzer on the target and then analysis on the host , to TCP/IP based remote application debugging.
