User Privacy: Seven Ways App Developers Can Protect It

With the unprecedented growth of the app ecosystem, user privacy is becoming more and more of a hot button issue, especially when that privacy is violated. For many users, finding and downloading a new app is something that has become almost second-nature; we browse our favorite app stores, we find an app that looks promising, we download it. Done.

How COPPA Affects App Developers

The app ecosystem is growing at a fantastic rate, and with that growth has come an increase in concerns for privacy – especially when it comes to kids. If you do a cursory search in any app marketplace, you’ll see an unprecedented amount of apps that are aimed towards children; “unprecedented” because more kids are connected to the online world now than at any other time in history, and that number is only predicted to go higher.

Privacy, family pictures, a stolen photograph?

The other night I was casually watching TV and saw what I thought was an image I had taken of my daughter many years ago.  I was surprised of course but then again one has doubts when it was such a quick glance.  Another evening I saw the the commercial again and sure enough it was a picture of my daughter.

As I thought about the image, I knew I had shared it via the online photo site Flickr some years ago.  I looked at it again on Flickr and with a little searching I have also found it in the commercial.

This is the original picture as posted to Flickr:
