Questions about memory cache control

First of all, thanks for your reading.
I havetwo questions about memory cache control.

"1. Do store buffers operate when disabling caches?"
"2.Ifsome memory regions are set to WC(write combining), dothe readsto the regionsrefer to write combining buffers, not to memory? If the reads refer to write combining buffers, is it possible toflush the buffer explicitly?"

BIOS compatibility and upgrade question

Dell computer with Intel mother board. Latest Dell BIOS update installed. However, Dell BIOS is very limited. Found an Intel update for the mother board "Intel Corporation CA810E" that matches.
Used a hex editor to change the manufacurer from 86A to 10A in all files.
Question is: can I install this BIOS update and what are the chances of success. Also if I try and fail will the Dell BIOS update reinstall in Recovery Mode if need be.

Intel Video Card OpenGL Bug

I have doing an OpenGL program, on this program I use the triangle strip primitive, and on Intel Video Card the pare triangle is not visible... I think it is the backface culling.
This bug not appear immediatly, but after some time.
On nVidia and ATI video card it don't appear.

If it is the wrong place, please tell me the right place.


Cache Locking on Pentium Processor Family?

Hi everybody,

I'm Arintel. I'm new to this forum.

I'm looking for a document on how to implement Cache Locking (including data & instruction cache locking and code sample) on Pentium Processor Family.

It should be similar to the documents I found below, which are for CPU 80321 and XScale micro-architecture:

(section 4.5 and appendix C)

Advertised Freqency;

I have been able to get all the info from cpuid instruction.
But there is one thing that I have not been able to get.

The max advertised freqency.
I know that I can get it from brand string but that
is for procesors that support that feature.
I would like to be able to get this from a pentium or better.

How does Intel do it in there freqency test application?

In-Target Probe?

I'm not sure which forum my question really belongs to. What I like to do is to essentially be able to acess the instruction addresses (as they are executed) and the data (and their addresses) as a program executes. After going wandering around a few intel sites, I noticed the "in-target" probe gives the capability to look at the data I'm interested in. However, I couldn't quite find any other details as to how I would be able to access that information. Can someone point me in the right direction?
