GPA 4.0: Failure on Application Launch with Analyze Application window (occurs when Avast anti-virus installed)

If I try to launch any application from the Run window in GPA 4.0, I get the following error immediately, before the application even begins to open. This error even occurs with the GPASample.exe app.

(Windows 7 fault capture dialog)
Intel GPA Sample Application (or any application name you try to run)
Intel GPA Sample Application has stopped working...press various options, check online, close program, debug, etc.

Hello,

Since you can't get any application to run, can you right-click on the Intel GPA Monitor icon, select "About...", and copy that information here?

From what you're describing, it sounds like Intel GPA is having attaching to your process/game. So please check that you have Admin privileges for this account. Also, do you have any anti-virus or firewall software installed (as those two pieces of software may prevent Intel GPA from attaching to your process) -- if so, please check their log files to see if they blocked Intel GPA. In any case, we strongly recommend that you disable them while running Intel GPA, since so many of these can prevent Intel GPA from running properly.

Thanks!

Regards,

Neal

to your post, but maybe we'll resolve this problem faster if weconsolidate.

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know that you are running into the same issue. The "About..." info is also helpful -- I'll work with the development team to see if they've seen anything like this.

By the way, do you see anything in C:\Users\\Documents\GPA_4.0\MonitorLog.txt that looks strange? This file should show some info on what the GPA Monitor is doing each time there's an attempt to connect. Also, please let me know if there's a crash file created (something like error.xml), or take a look in the C:\Users\\Documents\GPA_4.0\Logs\ directory for your game/application.

Thanks!

Neal

Hello,

By the way, are either of you running with multiple monitors or multiple graphics cards?

Regards,

Neal

No multiple monitors, no multiple graphics cards.

One notebook, one GeForce 9300 GS.

I've tried to disable wi-fi device, ethernet device; I've tried disable antivirus and windows firewall;
I've tried disable several applications from autorun. Nothing help me. All applications crashes when
it run through gpa monitor. Even simple applications, that not use 3d graphics, such as Windows Calculator, Opera,
Windows Task Manager (!!!!!), all of these crashed.

I hope that this information will be useful,

Alex.

Alex,

Thanks for the info!

ps-> You might want to keep GPA from trying to attach to all your processes; to do this, right-click on the GPA Monitor, then "Analyze Application", then uncheck "auto-detect launched applications".

Ok, but it don't resolve problem. I can't use GPA in any ways.

Hello,

There is a known issue where Avast anti-virus software prevents Intel GPA from attaching to any process. Unfortunately, just "disabling" Avast does not keep it from blocking Intel GPA (the Avast process is still running in the background).

Therefore, please try removing Avast completely from the Control Panel, then reboot and trying to run Intel GPA again. So please let us know whether completely removing Avast and rebooting allows Intel GPA to run OK.

Also, as there are multiple versions and settings available for Avast, please let us know what version and options you are using (I saw one of you mentioned Avast 6.0.1; do you know what settings you are using as well?).

Thanks!

Regards,

Neal

Yes!!!!! Thank you very much!

Indeed, this is Avast. Disabling or excluding of Avast from autorun didn't help. Only full removing from system

solved this problem. I had Avast5.1.889.

Well It was good antivirus :) but...

So, Iappreciate your help!

Best Regards,

Alex.

Hello,

I just wanted readers of this thread to know that the GPA team has released a new version, GPA 4.0 Build 144237, to resolve both this issue (Avast) and another issue (for games hosted with Steam).

More information on this release is located here.

thanks!

Neal
